Sid Witherington in the Commercial Appeal

By Webmaster | July 3, 2008

The Memphis Metal Detector Club’s own Sid Witherington is featured today in the Commercial Appeal. It’s an extensive article, detailing many of Sid’s Civil War finds. An excerpt:

In sum: He has found more than 7,000 Civil War bullets, more than 100 Civil War plates, more than 600 buttons, 13 sword belt plates, assorted gold and Spanish coins, and other artifacts that include Civil War-era spoons and wedding bands, mess plates and, well, just about anything else you can think of.

All in all, it’s great press for Sid. Maybe the article will attract a few new people to the hobby.

Higher gold and silver prices create a new batch of treasure hunters

By Webmaster | April 3, 2008

Vial of goldAs we’re all acutely aware, the prices of gold and silver have been relatively high over the last few months. Apparently this situation has led to an influx of new recreational prospectors as well as an increased interest in metal detecting around beaches. It’s hard to say how many of these new hobbiest will hang around when (or if) the prices drop back down, but for now there are a ton of new treasure hunters.

Let’s try to find some of these folks and get them involved in the club!
